A box a half inch too big costs you in void fill, labor, and dimensional weight. Follow seven steps to right-size your boxes and run the savings math for your own operation.
One of our customers needed a 9.5 × 9.5 × 5 inch double wall box. A distributor selling from stock would have shipped a 10 × 10 × 5 box plus void fill. We ordered the custom size. The void fill went away, and so did the extra packing step.
Half an inch looks small on a drawing. Across thousands of boxes a month, the half inch shows up in three places.
